Emily Dickinson in the Modern World

What celebrity is most like Emily Dickinson?

Modern song Compared to Emily

Emily Dickinson was a person that stayed quiet and hidden throughout her life. Many celebrities want to be seen and heard, so it is hard to find someone who is most like Emily Dickinson. The only celebrity that I can think of is Michael Jackson. He is known for his music and talent of dancing. But his personal life is hidden most of the time from the public eye. So in comparison, both Michael Jackson and Emily Dickinson choose to keep their private and personal lives away from what they were known for through their talent.

Take all of your wasted honor
Every little past frustration
Take all of your so-called problems,
Better put 'em in quotations

Say what you need to say [x8]

Walking like a one man army
Fighting with the shadows in your head
Living out the same old moment
Knowing you'd be better off instead,
If you could only ...

Say what you need to say [x8]

Have no fear for giving in
Have no fear for giving over
You'd better know that in the end
Its better to say too much
Then never say what you need to say again

Even if your hands are shaking
And your faith is broken
Even as the eyes are closing
Do it with a heart wide open

Say what you need to say [x24]

Although, John Mayer's style of writing songs compared to Emily Dickinson's style for poems is very different, they still carried the same motive for writing them. Emily was known for writing about time in her poems. She also said everything that she was feeling through all of her poetry. You could always tell where she was at in her life by what emotion was portrayed in her poems. In the "Say" song by John Mayer, he is trying to tell the listeners that life is short and you should say what you want to say. He also talks about how even if you are lonely in life, that shouldn't hold your feelings back from being shared with others.
